A Turbocharged car, on the other hand, can start making around 25 per cent more power with just a reflashed ECU with Stage-1 map. For most tuning companies, Stage 1 does not require any extra performance part. Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4 require additional parts like an intercooler, free flow exhaust, intake manifold, bigger airbox, air filter, etc.

Often, a Stage 1 tune is sufficient to satisfy your hunger. Moreover, they are quite receptive to hardware add-ons. I would also be interested I ordered the parts connectors, generic OBD device to build a cable, planning to validate the other pins in the connector for the CAN bus pair. Can I always expect a signal on the bus, or only when initiated by an external device that I would need to connect? I also have a Ktm i can test on, but from the factory tool is now a handheld device if i got it correct?

If someone have easy access to either old software and cable or the new handheld device, and kan try and sniff the diagnostic lines? Could be KTM pin 1 or 5. I guess it does not really matter until we get it working. Could use trial and error to find out. The main reason is that it is practically impossible, for a person who does not know anything about this ECU project, to extract useful data from microcontroller FLASH memory. Even if I could extract the data written on the Renesas microcontroller, it would be too hard to try to understand the meaning of each byte. What could be done, theoretically, is to read the content of the EEPROM it can be done easily since there is no lockand try to understand the meaning of the bytes, but same as for FLASH memory, this is a very hard work.

By faking ECU input signals, or control signals such as the injector command signal it is possible to act as a "man in the middle" between the Original ECU and the Injector or any other actuator and change the behavior of the engine. This approach is less time consuming, and basically valid for many motorcycles, as long as their engine is equipped with an injector.
